The dependability of NewNewWire is notable because it stands apart from typical 1.0 releases, but it isn’t enough.

FEEDLY NETNEWSWIRE SOFTWARE

All software has bugs, but good luck finding one in NetNewsWire. If you’ve followed the team developing NetNewsWire, you know they’ve been relentlessly squashing bugs for weeks leading up to the launch and the dedication shows. I follow hundreds of feeds, and NetNewsWire loads new articles as fast and often faster than any other RSS client I’ve used.

FEEDLY NETNEWSWIRE MAC

Like the Mac app, NetNewsWire is fast and reliable. The app benefits from the same careful attention to detail that the Mac app does, but adapted for the iOS/iPadOS environment.įor users, that means a few things. Whether it’s an iOS or iPadOS app moving to the Mac or the other direction, too often the core experience of an app is replicated without accounting for the unique qualities of the platform to which it’s being added. I wish I could say the same about most apps, but I can’t. One of the strengths of NetNewsWire is that if you’ve used the Mac app, the iOS and iPadOS version is immediately familiar, while also feeling right at home on an iPhone or iPad. Switching RSS readers is fairly easy, so you should give these a fair shot yourself.NetNewsWire running in dark mode on the Mac (left) and iPad (right). That doesn’t mean I will stick with Feedly, I will try out Digg Reader - which launched yesterday, and some of the other readers myself. In addition, Feedly has been very quick to adapt and make Google Reader like interfaces for heavy RSS users like myself. Personally, I went with Feedly because at the time, the alternatives didn’t quickly take my feeds from Google Reader.

Since Google Reader announced closure, many of the readers above are new and still either in beta or quickly adding features within the next few days to next few months. All of these are Web based RSS readers with the exception of NetNewsWire. The readers include Feedly, Digg Reader, Newsblur, AOL Reader, BazQux, Feedbin, Feeder, FeedReader, FeedWrangler, G2Reader, InoReader, NetNewsWire, Ridly and The Older Reader. The top readers listed in the chart happen to be more popular, followed by other feed readers sorted by alphabetical order. In the chart below, I’ve documented how each of the 14 RSS readers I’ve evaluated line up. So paid versus free, in my opinion, means nothing. Truth is, just this morning, a paid subscription I had to an online faxing service shut down and did so immediately without warning. Some feel that paid options are less likely to shut down.

Google Reader was free and they decided to shut down. So, this comparison is a supplement to our 12 Google Reader alternatives story released shortly after the Google Reader news was announced.Ī major consideration for some is free versus paid.
